Built for Zero is a national initiative providing local communities with a proven strategy to measurably end homelessness through data-driven collaborations. The approach works to know each person experiencing homelessness “By Name” based on specific populations, such as Veterans or those who have been homeless for a long time and have a disability (defined as chronically homelessness). More than 80 communities nationwide, including Clark County, are active in Built for Zero, which is facilitated by Community Solutions, a nonprofit organization.
In Clark County, over 13 agencies joined Council for the Homeless and the Clark County/City of Vancouver Continuum of Care to bring the Built for Zero approach to our community. Partners created the Veteran By-Name-List coalition and the Chronic By-Name-List coalition. Together they commit to sharing data through HMIS and meeting every other week. Collectively the groups focus on reducing housing barriers and moving those on the By-Name-List into safe and stable housing.
